Despite the name, Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is primarily made out of rubber. TPO is one of the newer roofing materials and has become quite popular owing to its low costs, resistance to chemical exposure, and exceptional heat-reflecting properties. Currently, membranes are available in tan, white, or gray, and typically contain fire retarders and UV stabilizers.

TPO is perhaps the fastest-growing commercial roofing system type across NYC and the U.S. TPO roofs can be attached either mechanically or fully adhered. That said, heat welding the seams requires experienced and skilled hands. Additionally, some TPO formulas suffer from a short lifespan and may last for only about ten years. The right formulas last much longer.
